Introduction

Flair-For-Writing.com (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect your personal information. It also describes how we use and safeguard this information when you visit our website or use our services. It outlines your rights under applicable privacy laws. These include the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). We aim to use clear and straightforward language so you can easily understand our practices and your choices.

Our audience includes pastors, mentors, church leaders, Christian creatives, Christian professionals, and teachers. We value your trust and handle all personal data according to our faith-aligned values and legal obligations. We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We share it only when necessary to provide our services as described in this policy.

Information We Collect

We collect personal information that you knowingly provide to us. We also gather some information automatically when you use our site. The type of personal information we collect includes:

  • Contact Information: If you subscribe to our newsletter or download resources, we collect your name and email address. This also applies if you contact us. You may provide other information in communications.
  • Analytics Data: We use Google Analytics to gather information about how visitors use our site. The information gathered may include your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time spent on the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this usage data and report site statistics to us without identifying individual visitors.
  • Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to improve your experience. For example, cookies may remember your preferences and analyze site traffic. (See Cookies and Analytics below for more details.)
  • Embedded Content Data: Our site may include embedded content like YouTube videos, social media feeds, or other third-party features. If you interact with embedded content, those third-party providers may get specific data. For example, YouTube may set cookies and collect usage data when a video is played. More information is discussed in Embedded Content and Third-Party Services below.
  • Other Information You Provide: If you comment on posts, we may collect information you submit. This includes the content of your comments. We may also gather any profile information you provide when you participate in interactive features (if available).

We do not intentionally collect any sensitive personal information. This includes social security numbers, financial account details, or health data. We also do not collect any data about children under 13 (see Children’s Privacy below).

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • To Communicate with You: If you sign up for our email newsletter, we will use your email address to send you the requested newsletters. We will also email you if you provide your email address. We will also send updates or responses. We may also send occasional administrative emails. For example, we might confirm your subscription, or inform you of changes to this Privacy Policy. We use a reputable email marketing service. It manages our subscriber list. This ensures emails are sent securely and include an easy opt-out link.
  • To Provide and Improve Our Content: Analytics data helps us understand which topics are most useful. It also helps us see what content is valuable to our readers. We use aggregated analytics. This includes page view counts and overall site traffic patterns. These metrics help us improve our website’s layout. They also enhance content offerings and user experience. This analysis is done on a general level and does not focus on individual users.
  • To Enable Site Functionality: Cookies and similar technologies help the site function correctly. For example, if our site has a login or preference feature, cookies would remember your settings. They also help load pages faster and ensure our website works well on different devices and browsers.
  • To Ensure Security and Prevent Abuse: We may use data like IP addresses or user-agent strings. This is to protect our site and users from malicious activity, fraud, or spam. This data can include filtering out spam submissions on contact forms or detecting repeated suspicious attempts to access the site.
  • To Comply with Legal Obligations: In some instances, we may need to process and retain personal information. This is necessary to comply with legal or regulatory requirements. For example, if you make a request related to your personal data, we will use your information. We will verify and respond to that request as required by law.

We will not use your personal information for purposes that are incompatible with the above. We never sell your data or share it for third-party marketing.

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies: Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We use cookies to make our site more user-friendly and to understand how it is used. For example, cookies remember your preferences. These preferences include settings like font size or contrast settings. This way, you don’t have to re-enter them on each visit. We also use cookies for analytics purposes, as described below, to collect information about site traffic and performance.

  • You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse new cookies or delete existing ones. However, please note that blocking cookies might affect certain features of our site. For example, interactive features might not remember your inputs without cookies.

Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics. It is a web analytics service provided by Google. This service collects standard internet log information. It also gathers details of visitor behavior patterns. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to help us analyze how users use our site. The information generated by these cookies may include your truncated IP address. It also consists of usage data. This data is transmitted to Google. It is stored on servers in the United States or other locations.

Google provides us with reports that help us understand aggregate website trends and usage. Importantly, we do not receive information that personally identifies you – Google Analytics reports to us in aggregate form (for example, total number of visitors, most viewed pages, etc.), and we do not allow Google to use or share our analytics data for their own purposes beyond providing us the service.

  • Analytics Consent: If you are in the EU/EEA or other regions with cookie laws, you may see a cookie consent banner. This banner may appear on your first visit to our site. Where required by law, we will only set analytics cookies on your device if you consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clearing your cookies or using your browser’s privacy settings.

For more details on Google’s practices, you can read “How Google uses cookies” and Google Analytics’ data practices. Google also offers an opt-out browser add-on if you wish to disable Google Analytics on all sites. We honor “Do Not Track” signals and Global Privacy Control settings to the extent applicable. If these are enabled in your browser, our site will attempt to respect such preferences regarding analytics and tracking cookies.

Embedded Content and Third-Party Services

Our website may include content or features provided by third parties. For example:

  • Embedded Videos: We sometimes embed YouTube videos in blog posts or pages to provide additional content. Be aware that playing or interacting with an embedded YouTube video is equivalent to visiting YouTube. YouTube (a service of Google) may collect data about your viewing. This includes your IP address and cookie identifiers. YouTube also uses cookies when you play the video. If you are logged into your Google/YouTube account, your viewing might be linked with that account. YouTube may place advertising or tracking cookies. Still, we typically enable YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode for embeds. This mode reduces tracking. YouTube won’t use cookies to personalize playback in this mode, according to Google’s documentation. Even in this mode, YouTube will set some cookies needed to play the video. YouTube will not use the data for personalized advertising on our site.
  • Social Media Features: Our site might include social media “share” buttons or feeds (e.g., a Twitter feed or a Facebook Like button). The respective social networks provide these features. They might collect your IP address and know which page you are visiting on our site. They may also set a cookie to function correctly. When you interact with those features, you are taken to the respective third-party service. For example, this could happen when clicking “share” or “like.” This service may collect additional information under its own privacy policy.
  • Email Marketing Service: We use a third-party email service provider to manage our email newsletters (e.g., Mailchimp or similar). If you sign up for our emails, your email address and name may be stored on that provider’s servers. We have an agreement with our email provider. They ensure your data is protected. They use your data only to send our communications as instructed. They do not use your email for their own marketing. We keep our mailing list private and do not share it with anyone else.
  • Other Links and Embedded Content: We might link to external articles. We may also embed content from external websites. Those websites might collect data. This can happen when you visit them or interact with their content. This includes an article snippet, PDF, or interactive content. For instance, clicking an external link will direct you to a third-party site. This site has its own cookie and privacy policies.

Third-Party Data Practices: Any third-party service, such as Google Analytics/YouTube or an email service, collects data via our site. Each service is responsible for its own handling of that information. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of those services (e.g., Google’s Privacy Policy, YouTube’s Terms, Mailchimp’s Privacy Policy) to understand their practices. We only integrate third-party services that we believe are reputable and that are committed to GDPR/CCPA compliance, as applicable. For example, our analytics and email providers act as “data processors/service providers” under the law. They process data on our behalf and under our instructions for the purposes we’ve described. They must not use that data for any other purpose.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or profit. In fact, we do not share your personal data with any third parties except in the limited circumstances described below:

  • Service Providers: We may share information with trusted third-party service providers. These providers help us run the website and provide our services. We share information with our web hosting provider, our email newsletter service, and analytics providers (like Google Analytics). We also share information with any other vendors who perform functions on our behalf. These providers only get the information necessary to perform their specific services. For example, our email provider only has your email address and name if you subscribed. Google Analytics only receives usage data. We require these providers to safeguard your data contractually. They cannot use it for any purpose other than providing services to us. Google acts as our analytics provider. It can only use the personal data it collects to provide analytics reports. This restriction prevents any other usage of the data.
  • Legal Compliance and Protection: We may disclose personal information if required by law or legal process. This includes responding to a court order, subpoena, or a lawful request from government authorities. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary. We might need to investigate or protect against harmful activities. These activities could harm our guests, users, associates, or property, such as fraud, security incidents, or violations of law. Disclosure may also be necessary to enforce our website’s terms of use.
  • Business Transfers: Our website or ministry might become part of a significant business transaction. In that case, user information might be transferred. This can happen during a merger, acquisition, or asset sale. If that happens, we will ensure that your data remains subject to confidentiality obligations. We will provide notice on our site before any personal data becomes subject to a different privacy policy. (At present, we have no plans for any such transfer.)
  • With Your Consent: If we need to share your information for any other purpose, we will ask for your consent. We will do this explicitly. For instance, if we were to participate in a collaborative project with another organization, we would want to invite you. We would only share your contact info if you agreed.

Aside from the above situations, we do not disclose your information to third parties. Importantly, we never sell personal data, and we do not share personal information with advertisers or unrelated parties. Your email address and other details are used only by Flair-For-Writing.com and our service providers (acting on our behalf) as explained here.

Your Rights and Choices

We respect your rights over your personal data. Depending on your location and the laws that apply to you, you have several essential privacy rights:

Rights Under GDPR (for users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and similar jurisdictions): If you are located in the EEA, UK, or another region with similar data protection laws, you have the following rights regarding your personal data, subject to certain exceptions and limits:

  • Right to Access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request information about how we use it. The personal data information helps you understand what data we have and confirm that we are processing it lawfully.
  • Right to Rectification: Your personal information must be accurate. You have the right to ask us to correct any inaccuracies. If your information is incomplete, you can request us to update it. For example, if you change your email address, you can update your subscription info or request that we update it.
  • Right to Erasure: You can ask us to delete your personal data. If you withdraw your consent, for example, by unsubscribing from our mailing list, you can request deletion. You might also want your information removed. We will honor this to the extent required by law. (For instance, we might need to keep certain records if required for legal obligations, but we’ll inform you if so.)
  • Right to Restrict Processing: You have the right to request that we limit the processing of your data. This applies in certain situations. For example, if you contest the accuracy of data, we will restrict processing. We will also restrict it if you object to our use of the data. This restriction occurs while we review your concern.
  • Right to Object: You may object to specific processing of your data. This includes processing for direct marketing. In some cases, you can object when we process data based on our “legitimate interest.” In practice, we only send you marketing emails if you’ve subscribed. You can opt out at any time if you somehow receive an unwanted communication. If we ever were to consider expanding data use, you could object.
  • Right to Data Portability: You provided data to us. We process it by automated means. This processing is based on your consent or a contract. You can request to receive that data in a standard, machine-readable format. Alternatively, you can ask us to transfer it to another service provider where technically feasible. (This applies mainly to information like your email subscription details.)
  • Right Not to Be Subject to Automated Decisions: We do not make any solely automated decisions. This includes profiling. These actions do not have legal or similarly significant effects on you. If that ever changes, you would have rights to certain protections, including human review.

To exercise any of these GDPR rights, please contact us (see Contact Us below). We will respond to valid requests within one month or the time frame required by law. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request. This is to ensure we don’t give your data to an impostor. Some requests may be subject to certain exemptions. For example, if fulfilling a deletion request would impede freedom of expression, we’ll let you know. If we have a legal obligation to keep the data, we’ll inform you about it.

Rights Under CCPA (for California Residents): California residents have specific rights about their personal information. These rights are granted under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the CPRA. These include:

  • Right to Know: You can request a disclosure of your personal information. We can provide specific pieces we have collected about you in the past 12 months. You can also ask for details about our data practices. The specific pieces of personal information include the categories of personal information collected. It also includes the sources of that information. Additionally, it covers the business purposes for which it is collected. We also disclose the categories of third parties with whom we share personal information. (We have outlined much of this information in this Privacy Policy.)
  • Right to Delete: You can request that we delete personal information we have collected from you. As with the GDPR, if you ask, we will delete your data from our records (and instruct our service providers to do the same), unless retaining the information is permitted or required by law (e.g., for legal compliance or to complete a transaction you requested).
  • Right to Correct: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing: Important: We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising (the CCPA’s definition of “sharing”). We don’t sell or share data in this way. Therefore, we do not provide a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link. There’s nothing to opt out of in that regard. If that ever changes, we will update this policy and our site to provide an opt-out method.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Info: We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by CCPA (e.g., social security numbers, precise geolocation, etc.) beyond what is necessary for the services (and we do not use any such data to infer characteristics about you). If we did, California residents would have the right to limit our use of sensitive information.
  • Right of Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights. We will not discriminate against you. This means we won’t deny you our services. We also won’t provide a different level of service just because you made a privacy rights request. You can exercise your privacy rights freely without fear of punitive consequences.

Submitting Requests: To exercise your California rights to know, delete, or correct, you can contact us. Your authorized agent may also contact us. Please refer to the Contact Us section. We will verify your request using information we have on file. We may ask you to confirm your email address or other details. If you use an authorized agent, we will require proof of their authorization. We will still verify your identity, as required by the CCPA. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days or as required by California law. If we need more time, up to an additional 45 days, we will let you know the reason. We will also inform you of the extension period in writing.

Opt-Out of Marketing Communications: Regardless of jurisdiction, you can unsubscribe at any time. This is valid if you have signed up for our email newsletter or other communications. Every marketing email we send includes an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom. If you unsubscribe, we will remove you from our mailing list promptly. (Even if you opt out of marketing emails, we may still send you non-promotional emails if necessary, e.g., an administrative notice about your account or a response to an inquiry you sent us.)

Cookies & Tracking Choices: As noted earlier, you can manage cookies in your browser settings or with tools. Suppose you’re in California and have enabled the Global Privacy Control (GPC) or similar do-not-sell signal in your browser. We recognize such signals as a valid opt-out request under CCPA. This applies for any data sharing that might be considered a “sale”/”sharing.” Though, we now do not sell/share data. If you are in the EU and have not consented to analytics cookies, we will respect your decision. We will not set them. We aim to give you control over the tracking technologies that affect you.

Data Security and Retention

Security Measures: We take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect the personal information we collect. We guard it against loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These protective protocols involve technical measures. Examples include encryption for data in transit where applicable. We ensure secure connections via HTTPS. Regular software security updates on our website platform are also conducted. They also include organizational measures. We restrict access to personal data only to those who need it to perform their duties. We provide training for anyone who manages the data. While no website or internet transmission is 100% secure, we strive to use industry best practices to guard your information. For example, our site is kept up to date, and we use reputable service providers that focus on security. If we ever experience a data breach involving your personal data, we will notify you. We will also notify the appropriate authorities as required by law.

Retention Period: We keep personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this policy. Sometimes, retention is required by law. For instance:

  • If you subscribe to our newsletter, we will keep your email on file. We will do this until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Once you unsubscribe, we may keep your email on a suppression list. This ensures we respect your opt-out. We need to know not to send you emails anymore.
  • Analytics data, which is largely aggregated, is retained as long as needed for analysis. Google Analytics retains user-level data, like cookies and associated identifiers, for a set period. We currently use the default retention settings, which may be around 14 months. We only view analytics in aggregate and do not attempt to identify individual users.
  • Suppose you contact us directly (e.g., via email or a contact form). In that case, we may retain that correspondence for the time needed to address your inquiry. We also keep records of our communications. We periodically review and delete old inquiries.
  • We will also retain information as needed to comply with legal obligations or to resolve disputes. For example, we might retain minimal records if required for tax or accounting purposes. We might also retain them if we need to prove consent to send emails.

We will securely delete or anonymize personal data when there is no longer a lawful reason to keep it. Similarly, if there is no business need, the data will be handled properly. For example, suppose our email marketing tool shows an email address has been inactive for a long time. We have no other relationship with that individual. In that case, we may remove it from our list to reduce data holding. Backup systems may retain data for a short period after deletion. We have processes to purge data from backups as well.

Children’s Privacy

Our content and services are aimed at adult professionals and creatives (such as pastors, mentors, and teachers), not at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If you are under 13, please do not provide any personal details on our site. If we learn about collecting personal information from a child under 13, we will act immediately. We will delete the information promptly (or under the applicable age of consent in your region, if higher). If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us. We can then remove the data.

International Users and Data Transfers

Flair-For-Writing.com is based in the United States. The personal information we collect is processed and stored on servers located in the U.S. or other jurisdictions. Because personal information is stored in the U.S. or other jurisdictions, if you access our site from outside the U.S., your personal data may be transferred to and processed in the United States. It may also be sent to other countries. These countries may not have the same level of data protection laws as your home country. But, we take steps to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place. These measures protect your data in line with this Privacy Policy.

Suppose you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another region with data transfer restrictions. In that case, we rely on legally approved mechanisms to transfer data transfer (for example, the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses or the U.S.-EU Data Privacy Framework, if applicable) to ensure your data is adequately protected. By using our site, you agree that your information may be transferred to our facilities in the U.S. Additionally, your data might also be sent to our service providers’ facilities. This transfer happens as necessary for the described purposes. We treat all personal data, regardless of where it comes from, with the same respect and security.
